Kahepaikne #17 17.04.2018

Tonight’s episode of Kahepaikne is perhaps more Estonian than usual, as our guest this week is James, a foreign Estonian born in San Francisco, but of Estonian heritage who has recently moved to Tartu. James has done some very impressive research on his family’s past. He told us in detail how his grandmother, an actress in Tallinn during the prewar times, and mother escaped to Germany during the second world war, and eventually made their way from there to the United States, how his parents met, and even where his last name, Sienkiewicz, comes from (a fascinating story that could fill a whole other episode by itself). It’s certainly a more character-centric episode, but these personal stories are, probably, the ones that are the easiest to relate to, after all.
